LifeQuest: Fall 2008 Class Descriptions
In the Beginning: A Study of Genesis 1-11 Genesis 1-11 covers major events from Creation to Abraham, giving us a “foretaste” of what follows in the remaining 1178 chapters of God’s Word. Here we read of God’s creation of dinosaurs and dandelions, atoms and galaxies; of the first man made and the first man born, the first man to die and the first man to live forever; of God’s grace and God’s redemption. It has been said that a lack of understanding of these foundational chapters can make it hard to understand the rest of the Bible. Join us this fall and learn more about how God began His plan to prepare a Bride for His Son and an eternal home for His people. Led by: Jim Berens Location: Jr. Church room (large room in the back) Swimming against the Tide: A Study of 1 Corinthians The church in Corinth lived in the midst of a permissive and power-hungry culture that in many ways mirrored our own; and as a result, the believers there faced many of the same struggles and temptations that we do today, seeking to live as God’s people who are “in this world, but not of it.” In this far-reaching letter that addresses such topics as church cliques, sexual morality, litigation between believers, marriage and divorce, the excellence of love, and orderly, Spirit-filled worship services (to name only a few), Paul reminds believers that our faith should impact every area of our lives… regardless of the priorities and practices of the world around us. Profoundly powerful and remarkably relevant, First Corinthians calls the church in every age—as the body of Christ and the temple of God—to a radically Christ-centered existence of holiness and humility in the midst of a sinful and self-centered society.
